The Burlington School Food Project works to educate schoolchildren about the concept of healthy living through healthy eating, and makes connections with local farmers who practice sustainable agriculture. Already this year, Burlington Schools Food Service has processed and/or served over 6,000 lbs. of local produce in the schools’ salad bars and lunch lines, including local basil, broccoli, green beans, strawberries, zucchini, lettuce, mesclun, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and carrots. The produce comes from numerous local farms, including Arethusa Collective, Digger’s Mirth, Healthy City Youth, Intervale Community Farm, Lewis Creek, Mazza’s, and Open Heart.
