2006-07 KINDERGARTEN
REGISTRATION PROCESS
Children who will turn 5 before should contact their local school to register for the 2006-2007 school year. Registration is underway now and classes are filling up. In
Burlington, because our population shifts, we have set up sister schools for
each of our elementary schools. This means if the class enrollment in your local
school exceeds capacity, your child may be reassigned to its sister school. A sister school
model helps us to keep class sizes balanced by allowing students to move between
the two schools. If one school has kindergarten numbers that are too high, some
students from that school will attend a nearby "sister" school. We
delay assigning schools in order to balance the classes at each school and to
provide every child with a classroom that can meet the needs of all the
students. Following the spring registration, the sister schools and the
superintendent's office look at class sizes and make preliminary assignments
by early June. Students who register after that date are assigned according to
space available. We do everything we can to accommodate both physical addresses
and sibling placements. And we do finalize placements as quickly as we can to
allow parents and schools adequate time for planning. If you
have questions, please contact your school principal or the office of the
superintendent at 865-5332. |
