New Leadership At Burlington Elementary Schools:
Principals Hired at Flynn Elementary and Edmunds Elementary
March 10, 2009
Paul Schreiber has been named Principal of Edmunds Elementary School and Graham Clarke has been named Principal of Flynn Elementary School by the Burlington school commissioners. Schreiber and Clarke will begin July 1st, to fill the positions of two principals retiring this year.
Jeanne Collins, Superintendent of Schools, welcomes Schreiber and Clarke. "Paul and Graham share our community's vision for education in the 21st century and a commitment to the success of all our students. Paul's instructional leadership, coupled with his experience in music and drama, build upon our strengths. Graham's international teaching experiences, and leadership in math and science instruction, complement and enhance our capacity."
Schreiber comes to Burlington schools after serving in principal and assistant principal roles in both Florida and Vermont. At Sunderland Elementary School, where Paul was Principal for two years, he is credited with motivating teachers, students and staff to work together toward success. Sunderland School Board Chair Gordon Woodrow points to Paul's success "engaging the community to support the school and attracting partnerships to create a better learning environment for kids." Schreiber has also taught in Miami, Florida, is conversant in Spanish, and has developed school-wide community service, enrichment and drama programs.
Schreiber earned his Master of Science in Computer Education from Barry University in Florida and his Certificate of Administrative Educational Leadership from Florida International University. Schreiber is excited "to join the dynamic team at Edmunds Elementary, who share his passion for strengthening core subject instruction while enhancing cultural and artistic opportunities for all students."
Clarke comes to Burlington schools from Camel's Hump Middle School where he has served as the Assistant Principal following one year as interim principal at Jericho Elementary School. Clarke is admired by his colleagues for "his ability to see opportunities to improve education and the leadership skills to make things happen." He had a two-year National Academy for Science and Mathematics Education Leadership fellowship with the National Science Foundation. He has also taught in an International School in Beijing, China as well as an alternative school at Akwesasne, a Mohawk Indian Reservation.
Clarke earned his masters and bachelors at Saint Michael's College. Clarke is looking forward to "joining Flynn's energetic and experienced team to support and enhance the development of engaging, high quality learning opportunities with a diverse group of adults and students."
Both Schreiber and Clarke will work with teachers and staff to continue to increase hands-on, real world educational opportunities in our classrooms, integrate instruction in literacy, math, science and social studies, and increase our parent and community partnerships.
