KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: MARCH 11 AND 12 AT YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL

Welcome class of 2021!

Please come register your child who will turn 6 by Sept 1, and bring a copy of their birth certificate and immunization records. An open house will be held at each school later this spring.

SISTER SCHOOLS and VARIANCES

The Burlington school board and administration have made a commitment to keep class sizes low, with an emphasis on smaller primary class sizes. To do this, we have created a "sister school" model designed to give us flexibility. Sister schools are two Burlington schools who "share" a region of the city and work together to balance class sizes. This year, we anticipate some increases in class numbers in a few key spots throughout the city. Therefore, when you register your child, you may be asked to attend the sister school in order to balance class sizes. This decision is based on the numbers in the classes at both schools, where siblings attend, what services exist in each school, and what transportation exists to help with this sister school assignment.

A parent may also ask for a variance, if they wish to attend a school that is not a local school. Variance forms and procedures are on our web site under the parent pull down menu, or at each school or the central office. Variance early decisions are made in early May, and then not again until August.

Please know that we do not anticipate in changes in any of our schools for the fall of 2008. The Excellence and Equity initiative, which will create magnet schools in the Old North End, will not take effect until at least the fall of 2009. At that time, you may choose to change schools. For now, please register at the school you would normally be assigned to, and possibly its sister school.

We welcome you to the Burlington schools.
