Our Community and Partners

With a population of approximately 39,000, Burlington is the largest and most diverse city in the state. It sits in a unique picturesque location on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks.

Our students benefit from partnerships with numerous community organizations and institutions at work in our schools. These partners provide additional talents and resources, more hands on learning opportunities for our students and use the arts and our local environment to engage and motivate students. The University of Vermont, St. Michael's College, Champlain College and the Community College of Vermont are among the institutions of higher education located in the area. The Intervale, an urban farmstead, has seven farms that help supply fresh, local foods in our schools. The Vermont Youth Orchestra, the Flynn Center for Performing Arts, Very Merry Theatre Company, the ECHO Leahy Center Museum and Burlington City Arts are among our cultural partners. Shelburne Farms, a nationally acclaimed environmental education center, has a unique partnership with our schools encompassing science, civics and environment and leadership.

A successful refugee resettlement program has made Burlington the home of immigrants speaking 47 different native languages and creating an international flavor in our community and our schools.
