CAPITAL PROJECTS

Bonds And Capital Improvements

In March 2009, Burlington voters supported two sources of funding to address deferred maintenance and critical needs and safety repairs for our schools.

Repairs At Flynn, CP Smith & Sustainability Academy

Voters passed a $9.7 million bond for repairs to Flynn School, CP Smith School and the Sustainability Academy at Barnes. Repairs will include electrical and mechanical systems, safety and security systems, and energy efficiency. These schools were identified as critical using a criteria to prioritize and rank project and have been slated for full-building repair. Doing all of the systems within the school as part of one project saves time and decreases the total cost.

Deferred Maintenance

To begin to catch up on critical maintenance projects, the voters approved increasing the annual bonding authority, or monies available for capital projects, from $750,000 to $2,000,000. These repairs include items such as replacing fire alarm systems, electrical systems, re-building walls with structural issues, improving energy efficiency and physical accessibility.
