The Burlington School-Based Health Center brings health care and mental health services to students and their families in two city elementary schools serving 450 students in grades K-5.

The Burlington School-Based Health Center provide basic primary health services as well as mental health care. In addition, the Center provides information and referrals to other community services.

Center staff members take special care not to disrupt the existing relationships between students, their families and primary care providers. The Center provides support for the 12 percent of students whose families reported they had no health insurance for all or part of the past year. In addition, the Center provides mental health services - which are a significant unmet need - to students and their families. Issues that have been identified include abuse and neglect, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, depression, anxiety and significant stress related to economic conditions, language barriers and/or unstable living situations.
