The following instructions are written for use with HyperStudio 4.

Naming and Saving a HyperStudio® Stack

It’s important to name, save and number your stack when you begin a project.

Click File from the Menu Bar
Select “Save Stack As
Select the folder in which you want to save your stack and name your stack
Go to Preferences
Check “Show Card Number with Stack Name”
Adding Text Objects

Text objects are boxes into which text can be typed.The Text Object can appear to be a simple headline or can be large amounts of text which is easily ready by scrolling.Unlike Painted text, Text Objects can be edited, moved and resized; can have actions associated with them, and can have hyperlinked words.

To add a Text Object:

Click Objects from the menu bar and select Add a Text Object
A dotted square appears on the card
Set the size and position (You can resize if necessary)
Click outside the rectangle or press the Return or Enter key to open the Text appearance dialog box
Choose your font color, style, size, characteristics (plain, bold, italic, underline,) and alignment here 
Adding Gradient Backgrounds

Professional looking presentations use a unified color scheme throughout.Backgrounds should remain in the background, not take over the screen.

To add a visually appealing background, use the gradient background feature:
Click Edit from the menu bar and select Effects, then Gradients
Choose your two Gradient colors (top and bottom) and your Gradient effect (vertical, horizontal,circular, and rectangular
Click apply

Adding Pictures 

Graphic objects float over the card.They must be deleted with the arrow tool.This tool will move them, resize them, delete them and allow you to edit their actions.
To add pictures:
Click Objects from the menu bar and select Add a Graphic Object

Click on the Disk file and OK if appropriate

From the HS Art folder or your own files choose picture

Click Open

Using the selector tool, select the picture

Drag the picture where you want it on your card.

Click outside the box to place it there.

Adding Buttons

Buttons allow you to link between cards.They can also have actions associated with them and can be hyperlinked.It’s important to have a “home” key on every card.

To add a button:

Click Objects from the menu bar and select Add a Button
At the Button Appearance screen select the type of button you wish to add
Click on format to choose, font style, size color, alignment and background color
Click OK and then OK again at the Button Appearance menu
Drag the button where you want to place it on the card

Click outside the box to place it there

When you click away from the box, you’ll see the Actions screen

Select the card to which you want to link the button

This will take you to the Transition screen where you can choose the visual effect you want between cards

Click OK then Done

Adding URL’S (Links to Internet Sites)

When making a HyperStudio® presentation, you may want to refer your viewers to an Internet Site for more information on your topic.You can link directly to a site from your stack.

To add a URL:

Click Objects from the menu bar and select Add a Button
At the Button Appearance screen select the type of button you wish to add
Click on format to choose, font style, size color, alignment and background color
Click OK and then OK again at the Button Appearance menu
Drag the button where you want to place it on the card

Click outside the box to place it there

When you click away from the box, you’ll see the Actions screen

In the Actions screen check Go To URL

Fill in the URL of your Internet Site
Click OK and you’ll be brought back to the Actions screen
Click Done and your button will now be a live link to the Internet Site
Pointer or Arrow?

The first 2 options under the Tools Menu are a pointer and an arrow.As a creator of a HyperStudio® project, you will become very familiar with these 2 tools.The Pointer allows you to perform the actions you have programmed.The Arrow allows you to make changes to (edit) your objects.

Animation

Animation is a fun feature to include in your presentation. 

One method of including animation follows:

Click Objects from the menu bar and select Add a Button
At the Button Appearance screen select the type of button you wish to add
Click on format to choose, font style, size color, alignment and background color
Click OK and then OK again at the Button Appearance menu
Drag the button where you want to place it on the card

Click outside the box to place it there

When you click away from the box, you’ll see the Actions screen

Click Play Animation

When asked where you would like to get your image, click Disk File

Locate and select your object (there is an animation folder in the Media Library with a large selection of animated objects)

Select open and hold down and drag your mouse to record your animation path

Press any key when finished

At the Animation screen select your options and click OK, then Done

When you click on your new button with your pointer, your animation will begin
